University and Community

Research and teaching are the most visible missions that universities take on, while a “third mission” consists in the application and in the valorization of the by-products of research and teaching. This is pursued in terms of knowledge, social impact and cultural value, by the creation of opportunities for dialogue and reciprocal development between university and society. On a general level, such a mission should push research and teaching towards the social context that surrounds university.

Since its foundation, the “Riccardo Massa” Department of Human Sciences for Education demonstrated a strong interdisciplinary nature, with a special interest in keeping up dialogue, confrontation and engagement with local context. A specific set of initiatives has been set into motion, mainly based on providing a highly qualified consulting and training service.

The objective is to contribute to the construction of a knowledge society that is oriented towards the consideration of aspects such as the context, the real needs and the required planning.
