Workshop “Young Women in the Renewable Energy Sector: Intervention Policies”

An opportunity for dialogue and exchange on the barriers and enabling factors influencing the participation of girls and women in educational pathways and professions related to the green sector and, more broadly, STEM fields

Within the framework of the European STAR Girls Project, a group of researchers of our Department has promoted the workshop “Young Women in STEM/Renewable Energy: Intervention Policies.”

The STAR Girls project aims to contribute to reducing the gender gap in the renewable energy sector through women’s empowerment pathways, mentoring, and the promotion of women’s roles in clean energy and sustainability fields.
The Department of Human Sciences for Education “Riccardo Massa” at the University of Milano-Bicocca is a project partner and is responsible for the scientific supervision of the mentoring process as well as research on the gender gap.

The workshop, structured into three sessions—both online and in person—represented an opportunity for dialogue and exchange on the barriers and enabling factors influencing the participation of girls and women in educational pathways and professions related to the green sector and, more broadly, STEM fields. The meetings provided a space for discussion in which perspectives, experiences, and proposals were shared in order to envision future transformative actions.
Professionals from the STEM and green sectors, academics, PhD students, teachers and experts in women’s empowerment and human resources took part in the discussions.

The sessions were moderated by researchers from our Department, in collaboration with the project’s national partner organisations, CIOFS-FP and Piano C.
