Contemporary History (HIST-03/A)
Description
formerly M-STO/04 Contemporary History
Research and teaching activities in this field address the political, economic, social, and cultural transformations and revolutions from the late eighteenth century to the present day. The field draws on a wide and diverse range of sources to analyse human activity and its implications at local, national, international, and global levels. When appropriate, research employs transnational, comparative, and global approaches to identify connections across contexts and scales.
This field applies the critical historical method to formulate contextually relevant categories and concepts. It promotes interdisciplinary approaches, dialogue across fields, and openness to scientific, thematic, and methodological innovation. Research also includes historiography and methodology, with particular attention to memory studies, the public role of historical knowledge and its communication, and the influence of digital technologies on the discipline. Finally, it advances disciplinary competences and contributes to the didactics of history.
