The Bachelor’s Degree in Intercultural Communication is glad to announce a guest talk by Anna Marie Bautista, Lecturer in Gender Studies and Global Creative Industries at the University of Hong Kong, and author of the book "Conspicuous Feminism on Television: Gender, Power and #MeToo" (Lexington Books).
In her talk, our guest will examine how the impact of the #MeToo movement on the larger cultural discourse has not only prompted a critical scrutiny of gender and power on television, but has also leveraged its popularity to commodify both oppressed and independent women.
The lecture will explore how the pervasive misogyny exposed by #MeToo has generated configurations of conspicuous feminism in shows like "Big Little Lies", "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel", "Insecure", with a particular focus on "The Handmaid's Tale".
The event is curated by Giacomo Calorio, Corso di Studi in Comunicazione Interculturale, Dipartimento di Scienze Umane per la Formazione “R. Massa”.
