This presentation will call attention to how race operates in global mental health research. Over the past decade, recognition of the importance of mental health in low-income and middle-income countries (LMICs) has grown. Although LMICs are an increasing focus in global mental health research, researchers from LMICs continue to be underrepresented in publications, grants, and project leadership. I will discuss various forms of racism that permeates research in LMICs, including internalised racism, institutional racism, interpersonal racism, and systemic racism.
